Lowerplace is the proud founder and host of the Rochdale Teaching Professionals Reading for Pleasure Hub

We’ve partnered with the Open University to enable us to deliver Reading for Pleasure Training to Lowerplace staff and school staff from across Rochdale.

The sessions will be led by Clare, who is our wonderful Reading Triad Lead. We are brushing up on our skills to develop children’s desire, delight and engagement for reading.  This year, we will be exploring the engaging resources on the new OU Research-Rich Pedagogies website and supporting staff in developing their ‘reading for pleasure’ pedagogy and their knowledge of children’s literature.  Our fabulously enthusiastic group consisted of teachers, TAs, senior management and head teachers, all committed to developing a real buzz about books and embedding Reading for Pleasure across the curriculum.

When walking around Lowerplace you can see the high quality texts being shared and enjoyed across school and the wonderful interactive reading areas in every classroom.  Staff and children are sharing their favourite books and experiences creating a real sense of Reading for Pleasure.  We are also developing our school libraries to be community spaces for staff, children and parents/carers to come and share their love for reading, the KS2 Library affectionately known as

Grandma’s Snug.
