Hello! On behalf of all the children, staff and Governors, I would like to warmly welcome you to the website of Lowerplace Primary School. I hope you will find it interesting, informative and a way of sharing some of our special moments.
Under the ’Features of Lowerplace’ tab, you will see some of our unique initiatives. For example, through the work of our visionary Reading Leader, we are very proud to have partnered up with the Open University to deliver a Reading Hub for teachers from across Rochdale, focussing on developing Reading for Pleasure in our schools. We are working towards leading the Rochdale Literacy Festival to celebrate the work we are doing with our partner schools. We are leading a borough wide ‘Spelling Bee’ at the Town Hall later this year, hosted by our Mayor. We have adopted our own children’s author Richard O’Neill, who works with us as our Writer in Residence, exposing our children to high quality writing and literature. We deliver a broad and balanced curriculum linked to our weekly ‘Knowledge Assemblies’, which are having a huge impact on improving general knowledge for all. We have our very own Science Laboratory (Phiz Lab), which all of our children visit to take part in outstanding, practical Science, led by our very own Science Specialist and Science Ambassadors. Schools from across the borough come and use this fabulous facility. In our KS2 Library, affectionately known as‘Grandma’s Snug’, children curl up in front of the fire with a book and ‘Wolfie’, Grandma’s pretend dog – it’s a real ‘Reading for Pleasure’experience. Here at Lowerplace we are passionate about Healthy Lifestyles. We take part in a wide range of physical activities throughout the school day. Our ‘Fruit Caravan’ not only serves our children at break times, we take it into local GP surgeries to promote a healthy diet. The local NHS Clinical Commissioning Group host their special strategy meetings here at Lowerplace, where our children take part in the discussions as part of our quest for promoting health and wellbeing in our community. We have our own ‘EAL Hub’which is a place that our children with English as an additional language are nurtured and supported in developing their English Language skills. We also deliver parent/carer groups and offer support for all of our learning community.
These are just some of our special features, but the best thing about Lowerplace is our wonderful children – they make us what we are!
I’m sure from reading this welcome message you will fully understand why I am so very proud to be the Headteacher of Lowerplace, a three form entry, friendly, inclusive and rapidly developing school. Our large and united staff team are committed to ensuring that every child has a happy and successful time here. It is down to their commitment and hard work that we have so many exciting and successful initiatives. Our motto ‘Inspire and Achieve Together’ is at the heart of everything we do. Our three school rules ‘Ready – Respectful – Safe’ are modelled by our staff team and our children are rewarded for abiding by them. We live the values necessary for children to contribute positively to the world they will inherit and lead one day. Our children feel valued and accepted as individuals. Our aim is that they will be able to function in the wider community in which they have respect for themselves, others, and their environment.
We are happy, hardworking and we enjoy what we do. Please come and visit us and see us in action!
Mr Garry Johnson
