We have identified that a number of children within school are off ill at the present time with symptoms of vomiting, diarrhoea and fever. The numbers are larger than would normally be expected, so after discussion with the the Health Protection Unit, we are notifying parents.
The symptoms are suggestive of viral gastroenteritis (also known as winter vomiting bug or norovirus) and it is known that high levels of this viral illness are currently circulating in the community.
If your child is affected with these symptoms we would like to reiterate to parents, carers and staff members that affected children and staff members should remain off of school until they have been symptom free for 48 hours. It is also recommended that sufferers do not visit hospitals or GPs as this will simply spread the virus, often to people with weakened immune systems. This advice should be strictly adhered to for the general health and well-being of the whole community.
Please look at the Public Health England leaflet below for more information on the virus:Stop_norovirus_spreading_this_winter_leaflet
