Thanks to us and you from Rochdale Foodbank

Last week we received a lovely thank you letter from Rochdale Foodbank, who we as a school and you as a community support so well.  Our Easter raffle raised £174.51, which was donated to Rochdale Foodbank to help them support vulnerable families across Rochdale.

Thank you for your ongoing support of the causes that are important to us!

Lowerplace are proud to support Ripple Africa

On Friday afternoon we were delighted to welcome Dave Ames from Computing At School (CAS) to Lowerplace. I have been working with CAS as a Master Teacher for the last few months and will be working on a number of projects with them in the coming weeks and months.

CAS are supporting Ripple Africa, a charity which amongst other things is aiming to develop education in Malawi. As part of this they have been looking for donations to provide resources to support the teaching and learning of computing. At Lowerplace we are very lucky to have such excellent ICT equipment and we thought it would be great to share some of the resources we no longer use with Ripple Africa.

During our Star of the Week assembly our Digital Leaders presented Dave with six laptops which he will be taking to Malawi on June 10th. Dave and the team will be keeping us updated on how the laptops are helping the children in Africa with their learning.

Congratulations to our Award-Winning Catering Team!

Our amazing Catering Team were honoured at Rochdale Town Hall this afternoon, when they were presented an Excellence Certificate from the Greater Manchester Healthier Catering Award.

As you can see from the certificate pictured above, this means Lowerplace has a Food Hygiene rating of 5, offers a range of healthier food and drinks that are lower in saturated fat, trans fat, sugar and salt, offers a portion of fruit or vegetables, actively promotes healthier food and drinks, and has strategies in place to promote sustainability.

We are so proud of our Catering Team – they work very hard to produce a varied, exciting and most importantly delicious school menu.  All meal choices are healthy, and the children love the fresh salad bar.  Our School Meal menu includes a choice of two hot meals each day, as well as freshly prepared sandwiches and jacket potatoes with a variety of fillings.  We also have themed meals and special weeks to celebrate festivals and sporting events, adapting the menu to suit.  I think you’ll agree, the team definitely deserve this recognition!
