Summer holiday club at Lowerplace!

Holiday club banner

School staff will be running a holiday club during the first two weeks of the summer holiday, from Monday 25th July to Friday 5th August.

Activities will include: Art and crafts : Baking : Games : Sports

The club will run Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 3:15pm, and costs £10.00 per child, per week. We can only accept bookings for a full week, not for a partial week. All attendees must book and pay in advance – we are not able to provide refunds if your child does not attend, and we cannot admit any child that has not pre-booked.

The club is open to children who attend Lowerplace Primary School. If you have other children at another primary school, there may be space for them to attend as well. Please note, we can only accommodate PRIMARY aged children (i.e. Reception to Year 6) as we do not have the facilities or staffing for younger or older children.

You must provide a packed lunch for your child. The school kitchen will not be available for use and we will have no way to provide a meal for your child. A healthy snack will be offered to children each day.

If you would like to book your child/ren a place at the club, please pick up a registration form from either school office.

Places are limited so please apply as soon as possible. School will send you written confirmation of your child’s place before the end of term. You do not need to pay when you book, but payment must be made before the end of the summer term to guarantee your child’s place.

New starters in Reception for September 2016 – have you signed up for a home visit?

Starting-School-by-Janet-006

It was wonderful to meet so many of our new parents at our open evening last week – despite the weather trying to dampen our spirits!

The next stage in introducing you to school is the Early Help home visit – a member of staff will come to you at home for a short visit; we’ll ask you some quick questions about your son or daughter and family life, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask anything you like about school, the teachers, school dinners, adult learning courses, support for children with additional needs or anything else you can think of!

It’s a great opportunity to have one-to-one time where you’ll have our undivided attention, and we’ll bring your child a special ‘starting school’ gift to get them as excited about September as we are! The home visit is especially important if you didn’t make it to the open event, as there’s a lot to tell you before your son or daughter joins us in September.

If you haven’t yet arranged a home visit, we have times available over the next 4 weeks, so please speak to Mrs Sale in the Infant office to arrange your visit. You can pop in if you’re at school, or call on 01706 648174 and choose option 3 for the infant office.

More information about what to expect over the next few weeks and in September can be found on our information page: Starting school is September 2016

Stay safe in the sun

hot weather

Now that we have some sunny weather to enjoy, please remember to send your child to school prepared for the sunshine!

Please apply sunscreen every morning before school, and make sure your child brings their sunhat and sunglasses (clearly marked with their name and class number!) every day, as well as their water bottle.

The Met Office issues the following advice for hot weather:

Stay out of the sun.
Keep your home as cool as possible, shading windows and shutting them during the day may help. Open them when it is cooler at night.
Keep drinking fluids.
If there’s anybody you know, for example an older person living on their own, who might be at special risk, make sure they know what to do.

Advice on how to reduce the risk either for yourself or somebody you know can be obtained from NHS Choices at www.nhs.uk/summerhealth, NHS 111 or from your local chemist.
