Attendance Reward Day July 2014

Yesterday we celebrated 100% Attendance for the Summer Term with a whopping 170 children! These children have been in school every day since Easter and we are so proud of their achievement.

Unfortunately the Birds of Prey session was cancelled by the provider at the very last minute, but in true Lowerplace style the staff all pitched in to put together a fantastic afternoon watching the Lego Movie and indulging in one or two sweet treats too. The children had a wonderful time!

Today we announced the winners of more Attendance Awards.

The Class with the Best Attendance in FS during Summer Term – Rb 97%
The Class with the Best Attendance in KS1 during Summer Term – 2b 97.3%
The Class with the Best Attendance in KS2 during Summer Term – 6a 99.3%
The Class with the Best Attendance in the Whole School over the Whole Year – 6a 98.5%

The Class with the Best Punctuality in FS over the Whole Year – Rb
The Class with the Best Punctuality in KS1 over the Whole Year – 1a and 2b
The Class with the Best Punctuality in KS2 over the Whole Year – 6b

Improved Attendance Awards went to: Aleena, Chantelle, Zane, Amana, Bilal, Zyaam, Tyesha, Casey, Christian, Paris, Joshua, Kyle, Hamees and Alfie.

And altogether we had 53 children who won the prestigious 100% for the Whole School Year Award! This has doubled since last year!

Thank you to all of the parents who support their child to have amazing attendance – it makes all the difference to their attainment at school. All of these children won prizes, but the greatest prize of all is pride in their attainment 🙂

It’s the end of Business and Enterprise Week here at Lowerplace, all the classes and some of the parents have been working hard on their products, ready to sell at the Business and Enterprise Fair this afternoon.

The Fair starts at 3:15pm today in the Key Stage 2 Playground – weather permitting! If it’s raining we’ll move to the KS2 Hall.

There’ll be so much to browse – you can buy a snack, beautiful handmade jewellery, flower arrangements (real and artificial), chocolates, a garden in a jar, and more… and even a bag to take it all home in!

We hope to see you there!

Industrial Action – Thursday 10th July 2014

Dear Parents and Carers

You may be aware that the NUT and UNISON have balloted their members for industrial action. Other public sector trade unions are undertaking ballots for action which close on the 27th June and 30 June 2014. The dispute is in connection with the changes proposed to the teachers’ pension schemes, workload, conditions of service including pay and pay progression and job loss. The dispute with UNISON and public sector unions (GMB and Unite) is in relation to pay rates under National Joint Council terms and conditions.

The school has received notification that the above trade unions which represent teachers and support staff within the school intend to take industrial action on Thursday 10th July 2014.

As staff within the school are members of these unions the school will be affected by industrial action.

We have undertaken a risk assessment for the school and have made the decision to partially close, therefore the classes that will be closed to children are:

• Class 5A
• Class 5B

We will let you know if this changes . Your child(ren) who are in these classes should return to school on Friday 11th July 2014. For all other classes / year groups it is expected that your child(ren) attends school as normal on Thursday 10th July. Siblings of those pupils for whom school will be closed MUST attend school as normal. Any absences from classes that are open will be unauthorised.

The consequence of industrial action on the disruption to the provision of education is recognised as well as the fact that this may also cause you difficulties in arranging child care for that day. As a school we have aimed to give as much notice as possible in relation to the affected classes.

Yours sincerely
Headteacher

Mrs P Earl
